Quote

"Being Latin American, growing up and being a witness of our [tough] social and political reality, it's impossible not to be political. You have to have an opinion, you have to have a position. And you have to have certain passions you are willing to stand up for. Music is my passion. I will always have that."

Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation

The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation(LDRF) was born in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. LDRF is dedicated to making sure every one of these donated dollars count in addressing the relief and long-term recovery of a better Louisiana. Committed to responding to the immediate relief needs of the people of Louisiana quickly and responsibly, as of May 2007 LDRF has awarded $15,620,950 to 77 organizations. Your help is still desperately needed.

Mission: The mission of LDRF is to transform the disaster caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita into an unprecedented opportunity for a new Louisiana – providing resources for the relief, recovery, and betterment of all its people by ensuring access and opportunity in rebuilding their communities and culture.

Programs: The LDRF funds and supports:

  • Relief and Recovery Services through the Louisiana Recovery Corps and other Louisiana based nonprofits providing direct relief

  • Community organizing efforts allowing for the inclusion of Louisiana residents whose voices have traditionally been left out of the decision making processes that affect their daily lives

  • Nonprofit Housing Development and Small Business Rebuilding

  • Programs that strengthen the existing nonprofit sector

  • Public policy and advocacy strategies ensuring effective and accountable use of public and private funds

The LDRF concentrates on these core sets of issues:

  • Housing
  • Economic development
